The Liberal Arts and The Promise of Filipino Sociology
Exciting Announcement for CSSP Week 2024!
The Department of Sociology is thrilled to reveal our keynote speaker for the upcoming academic event, “The Liberal Arts and The Promise of Filipino Sociology”: An Intergenerational Dialogue on Philippine Sociology in the 21st Century and the Legacy of Rafael Palma. We are honored to welcome Prof. Emeritus Randy David, a prominent figure in Philippine sociology, to deliver the keynote address.
In addition, the event will feature insightful responses from our esteemed faculty members:
Prof. Gerry Lanuza
Mr. Warren Francisco
Mr. Ervin Grana
Ms. Ash Presto
Through the lens of Rafael Palma’s enduring legacy, the event will explore how liberal arts education and sociology have shaped, and can continue to shape the Filipino identity, citizenship, and nationhood. It will highlight the challenges and opportunities faced by Filipino sociology in addressing contemporary social issues by bringing together sociologists, sociology educators, and students in an intergenerational dialogue about the continuing relevance of the sociological discipline in the affairs of the Filipino nation.
Date: 23 October 2024 (Wednesday)
Time: 8:30-11:00 AM
Venue: Pilar Herrera Hall
This is a public event. We encourage students, faculty, and scholars from all fields to join us in this enriching conversation, as we reflect on the past and look ahead to the future of sociology in the Philippines.
Be part of this inspiring event and contribute to the dialogue!
