The UP Third World Studies Center (UP Twsc), the UP Department of Political Science, and the Program on Alternative Development of the UP Center for Integrative and Development Studies, in collaboration with the UP Vargas Museum, present the launch of “Notes from the Philippine Underground,” a collection of selected writings by Francisco “Dodong” Nemenzo, published by the University of the Philippines Press. The event will take place on Saturday, 08 February 2025, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the UP Vargas Museum.

About the author:
Francisco “Dodong” Nemenzo (1935-2024) was a distinguished political scientist and Marxist scholar who served as the 18th President of the University of the Philippines from 1999 to 2005. He was Professor Emeritus of political science, UP Faculty Regent, Chancellor of UP Visayas, and Dean of the UP Diliman College of Arts and Sciences. He received his B.A. and M.A. in public administration from UP in 1957 and 1959, respectively, and his Ph.D. from the University of Manchester in 1965.
He has published three books, The Philippines after Marcos (1985), The Sovereign Quest: Freedom from Foreign Military Bases (1988), and UP into the 21st Century and Other Essays (2000), and has contributed articles to local and international journals on Philippine society and politics, revolutionary movements, and international affairs.
